Kristie Larsen created this cute little step stool for her son. She sent these instructions and tips on how to make the design on the stool. Really clever idea with stamping on tissue paper and then using decoupage to apply!
From Kristie:
1) First step with stamping on wood is to get the right supplies. I sanded the stool first and then painted the first orange coat. I used a sponge brush to do the white borders. This allows more control when getting a straight and even line.
2) Because of the paint coat I couldn't stamp without using a hybrid ink. The orange color I wanted to use for the top of the mushroom was a dye ink so I chose to stamp on tissue paper and then decoupage the tissue paper onto the stool. This is what gives the top the texture you see (click on image to see a larger view). I then took the Spellbinders "Label 1" dies and traced them with a marker onto the top to make the frame. And also traced a ruler around the outside for the border.
3) Once you decoupage the image you will want to put a lacquer coat on to keep the stool from scratching. The great thing about stamping on tissue paper is if you decide you want to change the image, you can just simply sand it off and put a new image on. Also, you can practice what you want to stamp and test it out to see if you like it without the worry of ruining your project!
Kristie used the Large Soda Pop Alphas and Polka Dot Mushroom sets to create the image on her stool.
