Valentines Week - Darling Cupid Tag

We are starting off a week of valentines with a mixed media tag by Kate Yetter.  Using the Sweetheart Silk Card stamp as her base, Kate added doilies, flowers, paint and even a cupid to complete this project.   Read below for supplies and instructions.

Supplies:

• Pink Persimmon Darling Little Ones Stamp Set
• Pink Persimmon  Sweetheart Silk Card Stamp
• Pink Persimmon Perfumery Stamp Set
• Large Shipping Tag
• Patterned Paper
• Corrugated Cardboard
• Black ink
• Red Glimmer Spray
• Black Soot Distress ink
• Gesso
• Twine, Ribbon or Thread
• Flowers
• Resin Embellishment

Directions:

1. Cut patterned paper to cover large shipping tag.
2. Stamp Script from PP Perfumery Stamp Set in black ink onto the tag background.
3. Distress edges of tag with tool and Distress ink.
4. Tear a piece of corrugated cardboard for tag background. Dry brush with some gesso and dry.
5. Distress edges of cardboard with distress ink and adhere to background.
6. Stamp PP Sweetheart Silk Card Stamp and the “Darling” from the PP Darling Little Ones Stamp Set onto white cardstock. Cut stamped images out. Distress edges of stamped images with Distress ink.
7. Wrap twine, ribbon or thread around the PP Sweetheart Silk Card Stamp.
8. Adhere stamped images to background.
9. Spray a little bit of red glimmer spray.
10. Finish of with some flowers and a resin cherub.

Art Journaling with Kate

Kate Yetter is a master at mixing mediums to create a vintage style design.  Here are the instructions for how she created the Journal cover above. 

Fine and Dandy Journal
Supplies:

• Pink Persimmon Fine and Dandy Stamp Set
• Pink Persimmon Perfumery Stamp Set
• Pink Persimmon Mini Bingo Card
• Journal for Altering
• Tissue Tape
• Stazon Black Ink
• Distress Ink
• October Afternoon ‘Sidewalks” Patterned Paper
• Gesso
• Blue Acyrlic Paint
• Blue Glimmer Spray
• Baker’s Twine
• Vintage Lace

Directions:

1. Coat the front and back covers of journal with gesso. Add a little bit of the blue paint.
2. Add some tissue tape.
3. Use the PP Perfumery Stamp Set and the PP Bingo Card to stamp all over the covers with Black Stazon ink.
4. Tear patterned paper and adhere down. Spray the background with blue glimmer spray.
5. Tear more pieces of patterned paper. Distress the edges and layer them together adding some vintage lace. Wrap some bakers twine around the layers.
6. Glue down the layers to the front cover. Stamp “Fine and Dandy“ from the PP Fine and Dandy Stamp Set onto some neutral patterned paper. Cut out and distress the edges
7. Add the stamped title to the cover and embellish with die cuts that coordinate with the papers.

Altered Photo Box

Kate Yetter is working her mixed media magic again on an old photo box.  Using gesso, stamps, lots of paint and sprays, this box now looks nothing like its original state.  Follow Kate's instructions below on how to alter your own book, box, or any type of container to create a one-of-a-kind gift. 

Supplies:

• Pink Persimmon Perfumery Stamp set
• Pink Persimmon Mini Silhouette and Monogram Stamp Set
• Molding Paste
• Grunge board Flourishes
• Turquoise and Brown Glimmer Sprays
• Gesso
• Glossy Accents
• Flowers
• Spellbinders Fancy Frames
• Rosette
• Sepia ink
• Turquoise, Green and Brown Acrylic Paint
• 1 Inch Circle Punch
• Distress ink

 

Directions:

1. Cover box with a coat of gesso.
2. Stamp Perfume label from PP Perfumery Stamp set in sepia ink all over box.
3. Apply molding paste inside photo window. Dry with heat gun until film forms. Spray ‘Perfume” label with water and stamp into molding paste. Wash stamp immediately. Allow to dry overnight.
4. Paint over molding paste with various color acrylic paints. Remember to highlight the textured areas.
5. Spray the box with various colored sprays and allow them to drip down the box.
6. Color the grunge board flourishes with brown glimmer spray. Spray the flowers to coordinate with the box.
7. Arrange flourishes and flowers in the corners and glue down.
8. Die cut a large fancy frame and distress with ink.
9. Glue in center of photo window over molding paste. Glue rosette on top.
10. Stamp ‘Mini Silhouette’ from PP Mini Silhouette and Monogram Stamp Set in Sepia ink.
11. Cut out image with circle punch and distress entire circle. Cover with Glossy Accents and Dry.
12. Glue stamped image to center of rosette.

Autumn Corset Tag

Kate Yetter is so good at making her creations have an aged feel.  Using gesso and paints along with sprays and inks, she can make any paper product look like it is 100 years old.  I love the colors of this tag.  It's like a mini piece of art. 

Supplies:
Pink Persimmon ‘Dr. Warner’s Corsets’ Stamp
Pink Persimmon ‘Perfumery’ Stamp Set
Cardstock Tag 6 1/4th X 3 1/8th
Fall Patterned Paper
Crystal Flower Bunch
Gesso
Burgundy, Orange and Brown Glimmer Sprays
Vintage Fringe Trim
Vintage Button
Burlap

Instructions:
1. Tear various sizes of patterned paper and adhere to tag. Add a light wash of watery gesso over top to blend background.
2.  Spray tag with various colored glimmer sprays.
3.  Stamp script from the ‘Perfumery’ set over background in random fashion.
4.  Cut decorative die-cut frame out of coordinating patterned paper. Ink edges.
5.  Spray white cardstock in burgundy and orange glimmer sprays. Dry. Stamp ‘Dr. Warner’s Corset’ over the top and cut out image. Ink edges.
6.  Distress and ink edges of tag. Begin to layer elements starting with the burlap to the left of the tag.
7.  Adhere the frame on top, centered.  Add pop-dots to the back of the image and center corset image on top of the frame.
8.  Add fringe, button, and crystal flowers to finish off the tag.

Perfumery Stamp used as background accent

Ronda Palazzari created this very modern looking tote called the Pointy Circle Tote.  I did not think this was the sort of project that would use a stamp from the Antiquated Collection, but look closely at how she added a background texture on the "pointy circles" using the Pefumery stamp set. 

The text from the stamp adds a nice texture, and some visual detail to the bright colors.  Ronda is a genius with paint and you will definitely want to look at all the other beautiful techniques that she used on the individual shapes.  For more details on how Ronda made this beautiful design, visit her blog here.  Ronda uses a Blazer Designs stencil for the "pointy circles" and you will love how she creates all the individual leaves using paint and Maya Mists on the background.

A Modern View of the Antiquated Collection

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is an amazing mixed-media collage artist and teacher.  She created this canvas using the Antiquated Collection stamps with a very modern background.  The title is Observe-Capture-Collect.  You can find out more about Julie's creative techniques and take one of her online classes at her blog:  balzerdesigns.typepad.com

 

Vintage Shadow Box

Take your time looking at these photos, there is SO much to see!  Kate Yetter from The Scrap Yard created this beautiful art piece using some of the Antiquated Collection stamps, along with some vintage (and made to look vintage) embellishments. (click on any image to view larger)

Kate first painted the box a beautiful blue, applied a crackle glaze and then went back over with white.  That created the perfect "aged" foundation for the rest of the items. 

Kate actually applied one of the bottle labels to a real bottle.  It looks like it came straight from an antique store.

ATC's by Melisa
